Overview
WhatsApp Button by Obnold ("the App") helps Shopify merchants add a WhatsApp support widget to their storefront. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
What we collect
The App stores configuration settings that merchants enter in the admin app. This data is saved as shop metafields in Shopify and includes:
- WhatsApp phone number
- Greeting message
- Agent name
- Response time text
- Button position and CTA text
- Widget enabled/disabled and popup preferences
We also store standard Shopify app session data required for authentication (shop domain and access tokens managed by Shopify).
What we do not collect
The App does not collect or store:
- Customer personal data (names, emails, addresses, etc.)
- WhatsApp message content or chat history
- Storefront visitor browsing behavior or analytics
- Payment or order information beyond what Shopify already holds
When a customer clicks the widget, they are taken directly to WhatsApp. Communication happens outside the App on WhatsApp's platform.
Data storage
Merchant settings are stored as shop metafields within Shopify's infrastructure. App session data is stored in the App's database for authentication purposes only. We do not sell or share merchant data with third parties.
Data deletion
When a merchant uninstalls the App, all app session data is removed from our systems. Shop metafields created by the App remain in the merchant's Shopify store until the merchant deletes them or Shopify processes a shop data redaction request after store closure.
